How to make your insoles last longer

By learning how to properly care for your safety shoes and insoles, you can extend their lifespan and maintain their protective features for longer periods. This will not only help keep you safe on the job but also ensure maximum comfort during long workdays.

Since insoles are meant to be used with shoes, it's important to consider the lifetimes of both products in conjunction. The average lifetimes of shoes and insoles depend on several factors, including:

  • Maintenace
  • Work environment
  • Amount of use
  • Quality
  • User characteristics
  • Storage
  • Accessories - socks

MAINTENANCE

As a rule of thumb, take care of your insoles and they will take care of you. You extend the lifespan of your shoes and insoles when you care for them according to these care instructions:

  • Remove the insoles from your shoes regularly to ensure drying.
  • Remove dust and dirt from the inside of your shoes as soon as possible.
  • If possible, use two pairs of shoes and alternate between them to allow each pair to rest.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The lifespan is affected by the environment in which the safety shoes with insoles are to be used. Will it be wet, dusty, dirty or hot? Will shoes and insoles be exposed to sweat and abrasion? Is the ground the user is going to walk on hard or soft? Of course, the tougher the conditions, the shorter the lifespan.

DURATA IN BASE ALL’USO

QUALITY

Good qualiy premium shoes and insoles like JALAS have a longer lifespan than others. The insoles are certified and complies with EN ISO 20345 and EN ISO 20347 regulations, in combination with all JALAS shoes. Insoles from JALAS are also made of extra durable materials such as PES for lining and PORON ® XRD ® for impact absorption.

USER CHARACTERISTICS

The lifespan of insoles is influenced by individual factors such as your body weight, level of foot perspiration, posture while at work, and pronation during walking.

STORAGE

If your shoes are dirty, it's important to remove any dirt or debris as soon as possible. You can do this by gently brushing the shoes with a soft-bristled brush or wiping them down with a damp cloth.
Allow your shoes to dry and rest in an airy, dry room temperature and do not forget to remove the insoles first.

ACCESSORIES – SOCKS

The sock is the third crucial component in protecting your feet. It's essential to carefully choose the right sock, and JALAS offers a complete range of options. It's important to note that the lifespan of the entire foot protection system, including shoes, insoles, and socks, depends on the quality of each component. To extend the lifespan of your footwear, try using two pairs of insoles and alternating their use.

8030.jpgWASHING INSTRUCTIONS

All JALAS footwear have removable insoles. After use each day, remove the insoles to allow them to dry. This also helps remove moisture from inside the shoe and prevents unwanted odours from forming. The original insoles as well as the FSS insoles can be washed by hand with a mild detergent and dried naturally at room temperature max + 30 ºC. The reason for this is that the machine wash could change the features of insoles (stability, balance, support , ESD etc).

WHEN IS TIME TO CHANGE YOUR INSOLES?

JALAS insoles are designed to last approximately 3-18 months depending on the amount of use, work environment, activity level, body weight, etc.
After that, the insoles begin to lose their properties and effectiveness. You can extend the service life if you wash or use another pair of insoles.

The most effective way to monitor the wear and tear of your insoles is through visual inspection. Look for signs of abrasions, breaks, and dirt particles, as these can weaken the properties of the insoles.

To prolong the lifespan of your safety shoes, it's recommended to change the insoles every 3 to 8 months, if:

  • Work hours is 8 hours, 5 days per week.
  • At work you walk about 10 000 steps a day.

If your feet are incorrectly supported, or slide backwards and forwards in your shoes, they can soon become incorrectly loaded, which leads to strain.
