How to avoid slipping accidents this winter

During the winter season, it is especially important to ensure that your work shoes have adequate anti-slip protection and that you stay warm.

Staying warm means staying safer

Discomfort can lead to poorer work ability. Your ability to think and observe is affected. When your ability to concentrate decreases, the risk of mistakes and accidents increases.

The risk of strain injuries is higher if your joints and muscles cool down. Cooling down also results in reduced muscle function, lower strength, and precision.
The biggest risks are with the combination of low temperature and high wind speed, as the cooling effect can be severe.

The risk of slipping accidents increases when:

  •  When the surface changes, for example when you go from a snow-cleared area to one that is not.
  • When the weather changes, especially around zero.
  • When leaning sideways.
  • When it is dark.
  • When you are in a hurry.
  • When carrying things in your hands.

To counteract the risk of slipping accidents, you obviously need shoes with adequate anti-slip protection. As well as working actively with incident reports and risk assessments.
