Tiesitkö, että maapallon ympärysmitta on noin 40 000 kilometriä? Jos henkilön keskimääräinen kävelynopeus olisi 1,6 kilometriä tunnissa, hänellä kestäisi 24 901 tuntia tai 1 037 päivää kävellä täysi kierros maapallon ympäri ilman taukoja. Maapallon ympäri käveleminen on tosin mahdotonta, koska joka puolella ei ole mannerta.

Thomasilla on tärkeä tehtävä turvallisuuspäällikkönä Röhm GmbH ‑yrityksessä, joka on erikoistunut kiinnityslaitteiden valmistukseen. Yksi hänen tärkeimmistä tavoitteistaan on pyrkiä jatkuvasti parantamaan työturvallisuutta.
Thomas ja hänen kollegansa Röhm GmbH ‑yrityksessä kohtaavat päivittäin erilaisia turvallisuusriskejä, kuten liukastumisen aiheuttamia kaatumisia, nesteen kastelemia lattioita, kuormista mahdollisesti putoavia tavaroita ja teräviä metallilastuja lattialla. Siksi he tarvitsevat turvajalkineet, joissa on varvassuoja ja hyvä pito. Lisäksi on tärkeää, että jalkineet eivät ole raskaat. Myös BOA-kiinnitysjärjestelmä on erittäin arvostettu ominaisuus.
Ennen uusien JALAS Tempus ‑turvajalkineiden kokeilemista Thomas oli käyttänyt Atlas- ja Elten-turvajalkineita sekä joitakin vanhempia JALAS-malleja. Thomas oli kuitenkin erityisen vaikuttunut uuden JALAS 5668 Tempus ‑mallin käyttömukavuudesta ja keveydestä.
