Human safety is a core pillar of sustainability at Ejendals. We are committed to ensuring compliance with existing legislation to prevent harmful chemicals in our products. This includes adherence to regulations such as REACH and European regulations regarding Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
What are PFAS?
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a family of over 10,000 man-made chemicals with functional properties (e.g., repellent to water, oil, and dirt) that are widely used in consumer products and production processes. In addition to these useful properties, PFAS are also highly resistant to degradation, providing long-lasting performance.
However, their persistence in the environment and ability to spread quickly make them almost indestructible, leading to accumulation and contamination in ecosystems. This is why PFAS are often referred to as “forever chemicals.”
The persistence of PFAS, combined with their harmful effects on health and the environment, has prompted authorities and organizations to work toward minimizing their use.
Today, PFAS restrictions are regulated globally through the REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) regulation, and within the European Union under the POP (Persistent Organic Pollutants) regulation.
How does Ejendals comply with the new PFAS regulation?
Ejendals is committed to ensuring compliance with existing legislation to prevent harmful chemicals in our products.
This includes adherence to regulations such as REACH and alignment with our Restricted Substances List (RSL). We conduct regular internal testing using advanced laboratory equipment to monitor and control the chemical content in the materials used in our products, including PFAS.
We comply with current PFAS regulations and proactively adapt to evolving restrictions, including the phase-out of C6 PFAS (PFHxA). At Ejendals, we continuously work to reduce the use of intentionally added PFAS in our products and to substitute materials with PFAS-free alternatives whenever feasible.
