TEGERA® Guide to Cut Protection Gloves

Choosing the right cut protection gloves starts with understanding the level of protection your work requires. This guide explains cut protection levels, what they mean in practice and how to choose gloves that combine protection, comfort and dexterity.

Understanding Cut Protection Levels

Cut protection gloves are classified from level A to F according to EN 388, with F representing the highest level of cut resistance. The classification is based on how much force, measured in newtons, the glove material can withstand before it is cut through in the TDM test.

The right cut protection level depends on the hazards and tasks in your working environment. Higher cut resistance does not automatically mean a glove is the best choice for every task. Fit, dexterity, grip and other protective requirements also need to be considered.

Cut Protection Levels A–F

The EN 388 cut protection level is determined by the force required to cut through the glove material in the TDM test. The result is measured in newtons (N). The higher the force required to cut through the material, the higher the cut protection level.

Cut protection level Minimum force
A 2 N
B 5 N
C 10 N
D 15 N
E 22 N
F 30 N

WHICH CUT PROTECTION LEVEL DO I NEED?

The right cut protection level depends on the hazards you face and the tasks you perform. Start by assessing the risk of contact with sharp edges, blades and other objects that could cause a cut injury.

Lower cut protection levels may be suitable where the cut risk is limited, while higher levels provide increased resistance for more demanding cut hazards. However, cut protection is only one part of choosing the right safety glove. Grip, dexterity, fit and protection against other hazards should also be considered.

Always base your choice of safety glove on a risk assessment of the specific task and working environment.

CUT PROTECTION LEVEL F – HIGHEST CUT RESISTANCE

Cut protection level F requires at least 30 N of force to cut through the glove material in the TDM test. TEGERA offers thin and flexible Cut F gloves designed to combine high cut resistance with the grip, comfort and dexterity needed for precision work.

CUT PROTECTION LEVELS C, B AND A

EN 388 levels C, B and A provide different levels of cut resistance. The right level should always be based on the hazards and requirements of the specific task.

Cut protection level C – Moderate cut resistance
Requires at least 10 N of force to cut through the glove material in the TDM test.

Cut protection level B – Low cut resistance
Requires at least 5 N of force to cut through the glove material in the TDM test.

Cut protection level A – Basic cut resistance
Requires at least 2 N of force to cut through the glove material in the TDM test.

TEGERA offers a wide range of cut protection gloves for different tasks and working conditions. For levels C and B, select the required cut protection level in the filters.

MATERIALS AND TECHNOLOGIES FOR CUT PROTECTION

Large-Tegera_test_thickness_094A2190.jpg

Cut protection depends not only on the protection level, but also on the materials and technologies used in the glove. Different fibres and material combinations can help provide cut resistance while maintaining properties such as dexterity, flexibility, durability and comfort.

TEGERA CRF®

CRF® is Ejendals’ cut resistant fibre technology, developed to combine reliable cut protection with dexterity and comfort. It is used in TEGERA gloves designed for work where both protection and precision are important.

TEGERA CRF® Omni

CRF® Omni is an advanced cut resistant fibre technology developed for high cut protection while maintaining flexibility and dexterity. It is used in some of our thinnest gloves with high levels of cut resistance.

DuPont™ Kevlar®

Kevlar® is a lightweight, heat resistant fibre used in TEGERA gloves where cut protection may need to be combined with protection against heat. It can provide durable cut resistance without adding unnecessary bulk.

Dyneema® Bio-circular Fibre

Dyneema® bio-circular fibre is used in selected TEGERA cut protection gloves to provide lightweight cut protection while supporting flexibility, comfort and fingertip sensitivity.

CUT F WITHOUT THE BULK

THE WORLD’S THINNEST CUT F GLOVE

High cut protection doesn’t have to mean a thick glove. TEGERA 8846 combines Cut F protection with a thin and flexible 21 gauge design for excellent dexterity and fingertip sensitivity.
