How Ejendals’ Laboratory Advancements Strengthen Product Safety and Quality

A year ago, Ejendals made a strategic investment in advanced laboratory equipment to enhance chemical transparency and ensure the highest levels of product safety. Today, we revisit the initiative and check in with Bart Vervust, Chemical Compliance Manager at Ejendals, to understand the impact this upgrade has had across the company — and what it means for our customers.

Why Chemical Testing Matters for PPE Safety

Chemicals used in textiles and leather for PPE are tightly regulated. To ensure materials are safe for people and the environment, manufacturers must be able to detect a wide range of potentially hazardous substances—often at extremely low trace levels.

For Ejendals, this is essential. As a premium PPE manufacturer, we are committed to:

  • Eliminating harmful chemicals from our products
  • Finding safer, non-toxic alternatives
  • Staying at the forefront of regulatory changes
  • Offering products that meet the highest standards of safety and performance
Strengthening our internal chemical testing capabilities was, and continues to be, a key part of delivering on this promise.

Investing in World-Class Testing Technology

To elevate our internal analysis, Ejendals invested in a Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS) from Agilent, a global leader in analytical instrumentation.

This advanced system provides:

  • High sensitivity – detecting substances at trace levels
  • High accuracy – ensuring reliable results
  • High speed – enabling faster evaluation of samples
  • Extensive capability – screening up to 300,000 different chemicals
This means we can now analyze complex materials, including textiles and leather, for substances such as:

  • Phthalates
  • Dimethylformamide (DMF)
  • Azo-amines
  • Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH)
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC)
  • …and many others.
This internal capability strengthens our control over chemical safety across our full range of PPE products.

Benefits Felt Across the Entire Organization

The impact of our laboratory upgrade has been broad, accelerating and improving workflows across multiple departments:

  • Quality Assurance – enhanced batch-level checks and verification
  • R&D – faster evaluation and selection of safer materials
  • Compliance– stronger alignment with international regulations
  • Sales – clearer transparency and confidence for our customers
The result is a more efficient, responsive, and even more safety-focused organization.

Expert Insights from Ejendals’ Chemical Compliance Manager

We spoke with Bart Vervust, Chemical Compliance Manager at Ejendals, to hear his perspective on how the laboratory investment has improved our processes.
“We now test at batch level and perform random sampling. This provides a very high level of safety and quality for our customers.”
— Bart Vervust, Chemical Compliance Manager, Ejendals
According to Bart, having this technology in-house has allowed Ejendals to increase precision, reduce risks, and react faster to chemical safety findings.
