Derfor foretrækker malere hvide handsker og sko
Svaret skal findes i historien. Hvid blev standard i det 19. århundrede. Mange farvenuancer, som vi er vant til nu, var ikke tilgængelige til brug dengang. Hvid var praktisk talt den eneste farve, der var tilgængelig til maling af bygninger udvendigt og indvendigt på dette tidspunkt.
Ideen med hvide handsker, sko og tøj var, at stænk ikke ville være synlige. På den måde så maleren professionel ud og viste kunderne en evne til at udføre jobbet uden at spilde maling. Mørkt tøj ville henlede opmærksomheden på eventuelle stænk af hvidt. Derudover er de fleste andre materialer, som en maler bruger i jobbet, hvide: fugemasse, kit, gips og andet.
