La respuesta está en el libro de historia. En el siglo XIX, el blanco se convirtió en el color por excelencia. La idea de usar guantes, zapatos y ropa blancos derivaba del hecho de que, de ese modo, las salpicaduras no serían visibles. El pintor presentaba así una imagen profesional que demostraba a los clientes su habilidad para realizar el trabajo sin salpicar. Las ropas oscuras harían destacar las salpicaduras de blanco. Además, la mayoría de los demás materiales usados por un pintor en su trabajo son blancos: el sellador, la masilla, el yeso y otros.
